Background

The  Laudato si’ Center for Higher Education and the Just Transformations to Sustainability Initiative are partnering and working with the Holy See’s Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development to establish the Global Alliance for Laudato si’ as a hub for connecting, amplifying, and spearheading research, curriculum, and action initiatives for a sustainable future, inspired by the principles of the Laudato si'.

The Global Alliance is an international network of Catholic and mission-aligned researchers, educators, and practitioners committed to advancing integral ecology through scholarship, teaching, and practice.

The inaugural convening of the Global Alliance took place on March 9-10, 2026 at the Borgo Laudato si’ in Castel Gandolfo, Italy. The convening brought together around 100 sustainability leaders and scholars from over 60 institutions and 30 countries to develop and advance a shared research and action agenda along with a long-term vision for the Alliance.

Working Groups

Following the first convening, five working groups emerged as research priorities over the next 2-3 years:

  1. Place-Based Collective Action for Integral Ecology
  2. Reimagining Education for Integral Ecology
  3. Theological Roots of Integral Ecology
  4. Transforming Economic Systems Towards Sustainability and Justice
  5. Translating Knowledge to Action at the Food-Water-Energy Nexus
