Biography

Project: Status, Impacts, and Potential of Community Conservation in Land and Marine Systems (Integrated Responses to Biodiversity and Climate Change)

Advisor: Daniel Miller

Clare Sullivan is a postdoctoral research fellow at Notre Dame's Just Transformations to Sustainability Initiative. She is working with the community-based conservation evidence synthesis working group to evaluate the status, impacts, and potential of community conservation in land and marine systems globally.

Her recent research has focused on how to reduce commodity-driven deforestation and habitat loss, and support resilient livelihoods in the Amazon (Brazil, Colombia, and Peru). Her work combines field data, data science, spatial data and remote sensing to analyze the social, ecological, and climate impacts of different land management and conservation strategies in tropical systems. She has collaborated with local producers, companies, NGOs, and government agencies to inform decision-making. Previously, she led research on environment and development at an interdisciplinary research center, the AgCenter in Columbia University's Earth Institute and worked primarily in SubSaharan Africa.

Clare has a doctorate in Geography from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with Dr. Holly Gibbs. She completed a Masters in International Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, with a concentration in environmental science and policy. She has a Bachelors degree from Washington University in St. Louis. She speaks English, Spanish, and Italian.
